I was going to watch Alias and Prison Break tonight (working my way through both of their first seasons. I'm up to "The Coup" and "By the Skin and the Teeth") but there was some family drama so I didn't end up doing it. I did read more of the book I checked out of the library on US Presidents. It's a "biographical dictionary" of all 43 presidents of the United States. I'm up to Woodrow Wilson. The book was due yesterday though so I need to hurry up and finish it.
I just bought a book today called "Assassinations That Shook America" that covers all four presidential assassinations (Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy) and the assassinations of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Presidential assassinations seems to be my new favorite subject to read about, I blame Sarah Vowell. Anyway I was looking up attempted assassinations on Wikipedia and found the one on Andrew Jackson (obviously it failed). It says "After firing the two pistols, Lawrence was apprehended after Jackson beat him with his cane" I'm sorry but the image that puts in my head just makes me laugh. Jackson was the first president to have an assassination attempt made on his life.
Apparently someone tried to kill George W. Bush. I'm glad they failed, not because I like Bush, but because it would turn him into some kind of hero. Suddenly everyone would forget all the horrible things he did and he would go down in history as a great president. That cannot happen! Please, please, please don't let him be killed. (Also if he was killed Dick Cheney would become president and he's just as bad, if not worse)
Anyway other presidents who people attempted to assassinate are: Truman, both Roosevelts, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Dubya's daddy and Clinton. That means every president since Kennedy has had an assassination attempt made on his life.

I'm reading Sarah Vowell's book "Assassination Vacation" right now. Basically she is writing about all the places she visited that have something to do with the assassinations of presidents Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley. If I could take a vacation to all the fascinating historical places I want to visit I would go see the Winchester Mystery House and Alcatraz Prison in California. I'd also love to take the Jack the Ripper tour in London. I might go to Salem Massachussetts where the witch trials where held. Maybe I could swing by Boston and see some sites related to the Boston Strangler murders too.
She also mentions a website in her book called FindAGrave.com which is one of her favorite websites because she often visits the graves of famous historical figures, particularly those involved in presidential assassinations. I went to the site and found a listing of all the victims of the Titanic sinking and Jack the Ripper murder victims. If I were to go visiting graves I'd go see those, there are two mass burial sites for Titanic victims in Canada that I would love to see. I'd also visit the graveyard dedicated to those who were executed during the Salem Witch Trials in Massachussetts. And while I was in Massachussetts I'd go visit the grave of Albert DeSalvo, the alleged Boston Strangler.
