As promised that Cassidy/Salazar fic I mentioned. I'd rate it about a PG for language. In this story Cassidy is undercover at the start so John Murphy = Brian Cassidy. I tried to make it obvious in the story but I'm making a special note of it in case it isn't so obvious.

"Like Ryan/Miguel, Only Not Part 1"

Salazar and Ravell were sent to find some drug dealer named John Murphy who might have witnessed a murder. All they had to do was convince him to testify, Salazar figured it wouldn't be too hard if they caught him making a drug deal. So Salazar and Ravell were sitting in a car watching Murphy and an associate standing outside a pool hall. Murphy was about 6 feet, dark hair, blue eyes, scar on his chin.

"Really good looking, too bad he's a low-life." Salazar thought.

"Here we go." Ravell said as a man approached Murphy.

As soon as they saw the exchange Salazar and Ravell were out of the car.

"Police!" Salazar shouted.

"Shit." Murphy said as he raised his arms above his head.

"Assume the position right officer?" Murphy said with a leer as he was none to gently shoved up against the wall and frisked.

Salazar enjoyed himself as his hands roamed over Murphy's body but his face remained blank.

At the station Salazar entered the interrogation room, cup of coffee in one hand, case file in the other, and sat down across from Murphy.

"Look I'm not interested in busting you for a petty drug deal, what I am interested in is a murder that you witnessed. Now if you testify, I can make this charge disappear."

"I'm not who you think I am!" Murphy said excitedly. "I'm an undercover cop. My name's Brian Cassidy, I work narcotics."

"You're a cop?"

"Yes."

"And I should believe this why? 'Cause you have such an honest face?"

"Just call my captain, he'll confirm it."

"Sit tight." Salazar said as he got up and left the room.

After confirming that Cassidy was for real, Salazar re-entered the interrogation room to find Cassidy pacing nervously back and forth. Cassidy looked at him expectantly, Salazar nodded, and they both sat back down.

"So you're a cop. Doesn't change the fact that you witnessed a crime."

"I can't testify." Cassidy replied.

"You're afraid you'll blow your cover."

"Yes!"

"Without an eye witness we got no case." Salazar replied. "You gonna let a killer walk?"

"I don't wanna, but if I blow this case I might as well hand in my resignation."

"We could compel you to testify."

"I'd say I didn't see anything."

"You'd perjure yourself?"

Cassidy just looked down at the table.

"Look, I don't want to ruin your career but I got no choice here." Salazar said.

"Shit." Cassidy muttered. He rubbed his face tiredly and said, "Can I at least go home and think about it?"

Salazar considered it, finally giving in when he looked into Cassidy's pleading eyes.

"Alright, here." he said, handing Cassidy his card. "Call me when you make up your mind. But remember we don't have a lot of time here."

"Thank you." Cassidy said, pocketing the card. He stood up and shook Salazar's hand. "I really appreciate this."

Salazar was at home thinking about Cassidy. He didn't envy his position one bit. He didn't know what he would do if he was in his place. He wasn't even sure if he could get himself to force Cassidy's hand.

His buzzer sounded and he got up to answer it.

"Ya."

"It's uh... it's Detective Cassidy. Could I come up and talk to you please?"

"Sure." Salazar answered, buzzing him in.

As soon as Cassidy walked through the door he started apologizing.

"I'm really sorry about barging in on you like this but I found out your address and I've been going crazy thinking about this testifying thing and I really need to talk to someone about it and so far your're the only other person who knows so..."

Salazar cut him off. "It's okay. Sit down."

Cassidy took a seat on the couch and Salazar took the chair next to it.

"I've been agonizing over this all day. I just don't know what to do. What do you think I should do?"

"I think you should listen to your conscience."

"I was afraid you'd say that." Cassidy said with a sad smile, "I do this I'm done. I already blew it in special victims."

"You were in sex crimes?" Salazar asked.

"Briefly." Cassidy replied. "Couldn't handle it. After I testify I'll probably be stuck handing out speeding tickets."

"After you testify? Does that mean you're gonna do it" Salazar asked hopefully.

"I guess so. I just couldn't live with myself if I didn't. I'll do the right thing and kiss my career goodbye."

"Hey, your career doesn't have to be over. Maybe you could work for the D.A's office. I could put in a good word for you."

Cassidy smiled. "You would? I'd really appreciate that. Thank you so much."

Salazar instantly regretted the offer. Just seeing Cassidy smile like that made his stomach flip flop and he was afriad being around the man that much would cause him to make a really stupid mistake. He was never big on resisting temptation. But he really needed Cassidy to testify and he would feel like shit if he left the guy without a job because of it. He'd just have to control himself. How hard could it be?
