News about the Writers Strike from SyFy Portal:
Don't get your hopes up too high, but it seems that the studios and the Writers Guild of America may be the closest they've ever been to an agreement that could end the nearly monthlong writers strike, possibly before the end of the year.
Nikki Finke over at the Deadline Hollywood Daily blog shared the news Monday just as both sides were heading back to the negotiating table following the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.
"It's already done, basically," the insider told Finke.
"I was told not to expect an agreement this week, but my source thought it was possible that the strike could be settled before Christmas," Finke said.
Writers walked off the job Nov. 5, and networks have been forced to burn off episodes already produced of shows, while the existence of other programs this season like "Lost" on ABC and "24" on Fox have been threatened. Also, shows like "Battlestar Galactica" and "Heroes" could have a long break between episodes or even seasons if the writers strike is not resolved anytime soon.
While this is definitely the most encouraging news received so far, there is nothing written in stone.
"I don't want to raise false hope," Finke said. "But this source has been very accurate in the past."
