In which I don't freak out for once

This article is saying that unless the CW improves it's ratings this upcoming season it's done for. It points out that the ratings overall were off 28% and were down 22% over the past sweeps period. But aren't all the networks seeing a decline in viewership? I remember reading before how all the major networks are seeing lower ratings and that the writers strike really messed up the ratings this season. So I don't think the CW is in immediate danger of closing down.

Also the author of this article said that if the CW closes shop Smallville will have to find a new home. I thought this upcoming season was their last. Maybe I'm wrong. Does anybody know?
